How much is this fountain going to
cost?

is not for you.
Build Quality

So, how much will this fountain cost? Let us take the above nozzles, (They are both foaming) you
can clearly see the one on the right is of better build. Being of better
build also means it will cost more. (The less you pay, the less you get)
Example "economy" fountain cost
You want to build a simple square fountain pool. In each corner you want a
single jet directed towards the centre, each jet to have a single coloured
light. Your budget is £400
Let us start.
In order to have 4 jets in 4 corners each lit at night you
will need a pump, a nozzle, a light, and coloured light filter, that is 16 items in
total (One for each of the four corners)
You have already said the budget is £400, so 400 divided
by 16 = £25
So now you can see that with an average of £25 for
each item, £400 is not going to be enough, and you have not built the pool
yet.
An Existing Space / pool
What follows is a genuine example from a potential
customer, who we will call Roger.
Roger wanted to convert an existing
raised flowerbed into a fountain pool. (This
really is his flower bed, but we digitally added water and jets to it)
We offered various jet
and lighting options which he was happy with.

How "Roger's" pool
may have looked if he had of continued.
After we had quoted
all the parts we heard nothing for some time, until we received the
following email.
Hi Crew
Sorry for not getting back before now. Bad news I'm afraid, as I've heard
from my builder how much it will costs to get the pond ready for the
fountain and I have had to shelve the whole project on grounds of cost.
Maybe look at it again in a year or two.
Thanks for your help though
Regards,
"Roger" (2007)
Not that we are cynical, but we suspect it was the cost of
all the parts he wanted was the real reason "Roger" never went ahead.
Commercial fountain from scratch?
You will need a concrete pool, cable inlet glands, water
replenishment, water level sensor, pump, nozzle, lights, light sensor,
timers, "control room /cabinet" It could look like below. You can already
see there is more to a fountain that it seems. Click on the drawing for
more information.

Cheaper pumps?
What about using cheaper pumps? Why not
use a pond
pump? Simple answer is the less you pay the less you get. For more about pump
cost information, read the page

Closing comments
To most, it is surprising how many components are required
just to construct a "simple" fountain, each individual component is not
that expensive, but when you total them all it soon adds up. You would not
say to a car maker, "Leave the engine out, it costs too much" its the same
with a fountain, it needs all its parts. Could the fountain below be a
musical fountain if it had one light and one jet?
