Commercial fountain construction guide
What else do we need to know for your fountain?
What are the pool dimensions?
Length, width, depth
or if circular
Diameter and depth
This is important as some nozzles need to almost
submerged in order to work properly

Nozzles / pumps
What nozzles would you like?
How many would you like?
How high do you want the jets of these nozzles (This
determines the pump required)
____________________________________
Lights
Would you like lights, if so what watt.
35, 50 75 or bigger
We can supply either submersible transformers or non
submersible transformers.
The advantage of submersible transformers is you reduce
cable cost, the down side is they are 150 W max
which would you like

Electricity supply
is 3 phase available
Musical fountains require single phase

Things you may not know about.
Typically a pool is concrete, but how are you going to
get the cables out of the pool?
In a commercial fountain special cable glands are used
which are placed in situ before the pool is cast
|

|
This is a typical cable entry gland for a concrete pool |
As you can see this one has 4 outlets bigger are
available but with pumps and lights around your pool we find these are the
most commonly used ones.
The location of the pumps should also be considered. If
it is a relatively big fountain then it probably has 3 phase pumps, not
all of which are submersible, so these will need to be in a pump chamber,
but if it has smaller pumps these can be mounted on the pool floor or
during construction a small sump made for each pump and covered with a
grille
 |
|
Here you can quite clearly see the pumps and lights are mounted
on the pool floor, but when the fountain is running you can not see
them |
Controlling the fountain.
If the fountain is to be static it basically needs a
timer for the pump /s, a timer for the lights RCD* protection mcbs*
But if it is animated it will require an efc controller
or 2 and maybe contactors*
Animated fountains are typically 3 stage, single
programme
If it is musical it will require DMX units and a pc
As the requirements of the fountain get bigger a
separate room should be considered, if it is relatively small then the
fountain could have a cavity wall and the controls fitted in this.

Fountain hygiene
Fountain hygiene is dealt with on our page
here
Water replenishment / overflow
Due to natural evaporation a fountain pool will loose
water over time, to combat this it must have automatic water
replenishment, its true you can use a simple ball valve, but this
needs to be in its own chamber at water level within the pool, instead we
recommend our electronic water level
sensor
If the pool over fills (it can in heavy rain) then you
also need an overflow which goes directly to waste, we can supply these
too
|
 |
|
A ) Nozzle B ) Pump
C ) water refill
D ) Over flow
E ) Water level |
Above, although a small pool, it is a typical fountain
lay out
* we do not supply these as this is part of the
electrical supply / run the fountain
